I swear, I just got a message from the personals site that said "im ok hi im eric u can i meet u plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz". Can you say re-tar-ded? Durrr. I'm starting to not even read the messages anymore, it's too depressing to see how many idiots are out there. I might read a couple more sometime, just to get some more laugh material for y'all. I just think too much, that's all the problem is. I was just thinking about how it's horrible that people in this country are so bad to each other, trying to kill each other of stupid shit, when there are other people that we should be watching out for. I was thinking about how it seemed that things calmed down a little bit after 9/11, as far as people from the USA fucking each other other. But now... geeze, it's a horrible world out there, espeiclally us. Aaah, the weird things I think about while I'm taking a piss.
Really though, it is terrible, the things that people do to each other nowadays. Always robbing and killing, nobody can do anything on their own merit. It was so much better back in the 50's, when everyone was decent and had values. There wasn't nearly as much of this bullshit going on back then. Those fucking hippies in the 70's started most of the bad shit, with their drugs and free love. If you take a look at it, you can see that the downhill slope starts in the 70's. That's when people started to get so much worse than the old days. Anyone out there old enough to remember back in the 50's when men treated women like ladies and everyone could leave their doors unlocked at night?
I guess you could leave your door unlocked in my neighborhood, but I'm not trying to push it. I even keep my car locked, even though it isn't really necessary. I have a good car stereo in there, I don't need to push my luck. However, it's just because I live in a Mayberry like town, there aren't many places that you can leave your house or car unlocked, that's for sure. There's eventually going to be a big civil war here again, it's going to be chaos. Hard to say exactly what it'll be over, but it'll happen.
I was thinking about black history month, which led me to think of the black icons over the years. I was thinking of the greats and couldn't include Johnny Cochran in there, since he got a murderer (OJ) aquitted. You know that he and Scott Peterson pretty much did similar things? But since Scott was an upperclass white man, instead of a rich and famous black man, he's going to fry. A lot of black people think that they get an unfair shake from the law, but I think that example just illustrated a good point. And Robert Blake too, famous and white... and old. I think that in all of those cases, there was originally about the same amount of evidence, but the results were so different. I'm just saying, people complain about these things, but take a look at how it really goes.
Yeah, I was thinking about that on my way to work the other day. I tell you, I think about way too much shit, all of the time. There isn't a moment that I can just have a minute and relax. I was going pretty good with that in Las Vegas, that's about the only time. I can't wait to go to Vegas this year, aaah. If I get reservations early enough, and I get someone to go with me, I can get a good hotel on the strip for pretty cheap. Hell the fuck yeah, that would rock. I haven't stayed on the strip yet, I've stayed downtown once and over by the Hardrock once. I need to stay on the strip this time, that would be kickasstastic (my trademarked word).
Ah, the eternal struggle of getting off of my ass and going out for a few hours. I wasn't really too sure about going out tonight, but I would like to go up and see my friend, Kevin. Probably not good for me to stay in all night, playing my game. I played a lot last night, worked on my alt character, which is a Necromancer. Twas a lot of fun, yes it was. I'll have plenty of time for that later on tonight. I can't keep myself all isolated all of the time. I'm really bad about doing that, so when I realize that I'm doing that, I need to get my ass up and out a little bit.
I removed a couple of things from my wishlist, since I bought them myself. Sometimes I get all antsy and can't wait for things to be bought, so I have to do that. Heh heh, it's all good, I got the more expensive thing off of Ebay. Hopefuly it turns out to be what it should be, since I hate to return shit. That's the only thing about Ebay, sometimes you never know what you're gonna get. -insert Forrest Gump reference here-
Edit: By the way, I think that it's fucking hilarious that Jessica Simpson didn't want to sign a pre-nup when she got married to Nick, since he was the popular one back then, and now she's going to have to pay some major cash to him. Hi-fucking-larious, isn't it? She was all about the gold diggerness, and then she just got dugg. It serves her right, it's like some ironic justice or something. Come on, he's just a down home boy from Ohio, what can I say? I hope he takes her cash for the not wanting to sign the pre-nup thing.

The world is a dark and scary place, much more so now than it was. However, to say that the fifties were idealistic is terribly wrong.
You're not old enough to know the fifties first hand, and neither am I, however, I do know that the economic state at the time was somewhat similiar to what we have today. The poor were poor and the rich were rich, the gaps between social classes were quite high, and life wasn't peaches and cream. Few families had the niceties we see so often in film and TV Land reruns.
Rural families rarely had heat, electricity, running water, etc. There are still many throughout the Ohio River valley/Appalachia who still to this day make do without such things, and not by choice. It is naieve to say that people didn't kill people back then.
The undercurrent of the nineteen-fifties was one of fear and terror of the nuclear threat of Mother Russia. Students were terrorized daily by diving underneath their desks in fear that Stalin had finally come a-knocking. Workers had few rights, and women had even less. Republicans morphed slowly into the facist-esque ultra-conservatives that they are today, and as usual, slowed the progress of the common population greatly.
Great atrocities the world over still happened, however the media was not a fully developed being at such a point and had not learned what really gripped viewers: War, blood, terror, disease, sex.
It was later on, when the media was allowed to go to Vietnam and we at home actually saw what did go on overseas, the bloodshed, the violence, the carnage of the war-machine that we, America, had been so blind to have not noticed.
You blame the hippies in the late sixties/seventies, but they were disgusted by what they saw as well, and like you, wanted a peaceful world in which to live. However you blame them, citing their cultures drug use and free love as errosion to the moral fabric of America (When you yourself make reference to a drinking problem, and in a past entry note a one night stand with a veritable stranger).
The downward slope was not the peace movement of Vietnam Conflict era, it was the broadening of Americas ability to see the world as it really was with global news coverage and increased mobility for parts of the world to be aware of what everyone else was doing.
Again, it indeed is more harsh now, though, I will agree, but simply because of the ever growing space in between the castes of American society. You point blame at liberalism, but are too naieve to see that it is indeed the conservative powers that have truely ruined us. Their actions towards foreign countries in the past now bring about the wars in which we fight and where our faithful soldiers die, they're tax policies and economic programs keep the underprivileged as such who then have to turn around and steal to feed their families.
You'll say "But oh there are so many programs out there for those who are poor, there are always jobs for them to find!" As we both should know, for those who are unskilled, entry level people, jobs are amazingly scarce. Quit your job and try to find a new one if you don't believe me.
Welfare programs and the like are being cut down every day and the application processes are more and more selective. People will do what they must to survive, and whilst I do not condone it, I certainly have the clarity of vision to understand the factors that make it such, and none of them seem to correlate with your views. A study of social trends would help your callow views.
Good day.
I really enjoyed your comment, it was very intelligent and nicely written. Would have loved it if you would have left your site url or something, would like to see more of your writing.
Anyway, I know that the 50's weren't totally sunshine and roses, but I know that it was a lot better- as far as crime goes. I was strictly speaking about crime among each other and the way that women are treated by men. That's all that I was really getting at, those were my main issues.
I didn't have a drinking problem, I just used to drink quite a bit. Next month, it will be a year since I quit. And yes, I do have the occasional one night stand, though I am working on stopping that as well. That's another habit that has been harder to break than the drinking, that was easy to do cold turkey. Besides, you know how us women get pressured into those things, I felt a bit pressured the last time, the time that I referred to. I was hoping that he would call me, and though that he was a decent guy... I was wrong. I knew better, but was hoping it wasn't going to be like that.
I'm not actually a conservative. My conservative republican friend was actually always accusing me of being a liberal. I say that I am neither, I believe what I believe, and don't attach a "view" to it. I don't do politics, I do what I think and feel on the subject.
And yeah, I know how hard it is to find a decent job, I'm from that place. I could get another job easily here, in this small town, but it would be another crappy job. In bigger cities, there are more jobs, you can't deny that.
Really though, I do think that it was better back then, based on the crime and the womens issues. Yeah, we didn't have as many rights back then, but we also didn't have all of the bullshit. Now we have to do everything that the men do, and get paid less for it. Now we are expected to have a job and kids, and not be there for the kids when they need us. Those bra burning bitches ruined it for the rest of us. There's not hardly any men that want a housewife now, and if there is, there's no way to do it because nobody can make enough money to live on. A single person can't support a family anymore, it's just about impossible. We don't have the option to work, we're expected to work.
I have a weird mix of old fashioned and modern views, and I think that it really confuses people. Kinda like when I tell people that I love Linkin Park, Staind, Nine Inch Nails, and then I tell them that I love music from the 50's and early 60's. They're kinda like "Whaaa?", they don't get it.
But really, I respect your opinion, and you are a lot more informed than I am. I just don't want to turn all of this into a fight, which I don't think that you'll do.
Husbands beating their wives was very commonplace in the 1950's. People looked the other way, charges were not pressed.
Violent crime may be up, but some reports state that up to half of the violent crimes in this country are domestic in nature.
(Not the same Anonymous that posted the previous comment.)
Maybe it's not as commonplace as it used to be, but it still happens a good bit. The law have become stiffer on that type of thing, that's the only reason that there has been a decrease in it. I'm sure that if they looked the other way now, that it would happen just as much. At least the law has evolved, that is one good thing that I can say about the day and age.
(I am not sure if this submitted correctly, so ignore this if you get it multiple times)
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Your entry just somewhat struck me and I felt the need to reply. However, I do prefer anonymity, but even if I didn't, I don't really write anywhere, sorry.
I started to write alot more in response, however, it would have only been somewhat redundant and arguementative. I don't personally think that the way men treat women has changed any. If anything, I would say that women are probably better off now because you're more free to express yourselves as people and not just housewives and breeders.
However, what I think I know from what I read and see here and there is probably much more different than what you think you know from what you read and see here and there.
You're too young, and I'm eight years your junior, so neither of us, I suppose, could definately say one way or the other how things were. We could go by statistics and I could probably defend my points, but, I can respect that whereas you may have the wrong impression of the nineteen fifties, you can still have an idealistic vision for what you wish the world to be.
I don't quite think your sociological views are in sync with your lifestyle, but, I cannot deny you your views or opinions. We've all got the solution to the worlds problems in our minds, it's just a pity that most of us aren't accomplished enough to do anything about it.
Yes, it's hard to say for sure, without having been there. However, from what I've read, that was the impression that I get. I can't see it being as bad as it is now. However, I'm more talking about the crime aspect, and the way that people treat each other now. You know that the crime is worse now, that's just a given. That is really my main concern, not of how women were treated, though that is a little bit of it.
It's easy to get stuck in a rut, as far as my lifestyle goes. However, as I am getting older, I am starting to see that calming down has been a good choice. I still get an itch once in a while, but as long as both parties are aware that it's just a roll in the hay, it's not too bad to do once in a while. However, girls seem to get tricked and guilted into these things, and then left in the dust when all is said and done.
Statistically, crime is on the decrease, funding for law enforcement and such is on the rise.
This isn't a two year thing, this is well over a decade of decline. Excuse me, but, I am a bit drunk, so, ignore inconsistency in this composition.
P.S. However, I must mention that drug-related arrests are on the rise, though violent crimes and such are down.
I'm from Ohio as well. I have to say, though I am only 26, life was better in the 1950s all around. I am in the Army and am currently stationed in Afganastan, the cultures could not be more different (with reference to America). There is crime, there is corruption and of course there is oppresion on a scale unimaginable in the U.S. One thing that sticks out in my mind though, the people are happy. Talking to them, working close to them you get the chance to talka bit. I do not know farse (sp?) nor do I entend to lern it, but some know english. They lead a very simple life. Things are epected of them, but not more than they can handle. The socials preasures are preasent, however they do not seam to evoke the same sort of rebelion in the children as does ours. We have built schools here, hospitals, roads and many other things. I can see over time where outside influences could corupt them, but on average they are much happier. I can not quote any statitics or such, but I can say this. They live a simplier life. A wife is expected to be a wife. A husband is expected to be a husband. I am not saying that women should stay in the kitchen bare foot and pregnat by any means. I think that the preasure people feel to provide a 6 bed room house and 3 cars for two drivers and live in an upscale area pushes people. We are a competitive people by nature. It is bread into us. I must do better than that one and that one, otherwise, I am a failure. I beilive that the crime decrease is a result of funding. I aslo beleive that drug related crime is driven by social preasures. What I think we have lost sight of as a people is that its not what we have that is important, but what we leave behind. Iagree tha the 70's began the spiral, why? Because it was a mind set of live free, live for the now. I think that is the coruption. Why focus on something as meanial as where you live if it is alright? Its our legacies that matter. Legacies are children. Nothing material can make you happy or bring you peace. Focusing on the material objects causes envy, greed, and hate. I have lived my life trying to be happy. It wasnt until I came here that I saw that happiness isnt found in an adress, or income braket, but in just being satified with what you do in a day, and providing for a better tomarrow. The American dream has been clouded recently. We, as am enire people, need to get back to our ideological roots. We need to "live better than our parents" in life, not station. I know rich people that are miserable. I have seen poor people now. I have seen the truely destitute. The irony, some of them couldn't be happier.
As an after thought I feel I should appologise for any gramatical or spelling errors, I am on a public computer and limited to time.
I haven't had a post generate this much controversy or comments in a long time, I hadn't even thought about it doing so when I posted it! I know that other countries are terribly horrible compared to here (a lot of them anyway), but it just seems that we should expect more from this great country, especially with how "civilized" we're supposed to be and all, you know? But people are just horrible now, with all of the killing and stealing and drugs. It didn't used to be this way, though I will agree that there was some of it going on "back in the day when everything was so nice and simple". You can't turn on the news without hearing about some children killing each other, or someone getting robbed, or someone getting murdered for some stupid ass reason, or someone dying from overdosing on drugs. What the hell happened?
Can't wait for someone that grew up in the 50's to come here and tell us a little bit about it. Is there anyone out there old enough that comes here?
can u believe it?? Ur blog came out 1st when I typed 'fuh' in google search..lol... nice blog here...but kinda little dark...giving me some eerie feeling..lol
Erm... uh... I get that a lot, actually. There are quite a few people that come here by typing in "fuh" for some reason. I have some of the strangest referrers, I was actually getting ready to post some of the really fucked up searches that I've got found from recently.
Was going to type this long reply but why bother? You're pretty clueless. "take a look at how it really goes" is advice you really need to follow since obviously you aren't.
